The use of regular passwords is becoming increasingly insecure and difficult. Using the same password everywhere makes you easy to hack, while unique and complex passwords are hard to remember. Passkeys are the ideal solution for this. You could see them as a kind of online key that is securely stored on your laptop or phone. By linking a passkey to a login, you can log in extra securely using your fingerprint, facial recognition, or a PIN.

Why is a passkey so secure?

Passkeys primarily use biometrics, such as your fingerprint or facial recognition. This gives them a higher level of security than traditional passwords. Traditional passwords can be cracked, while fingerprint protection cannot be breached.

Moreover, the passkey is a nice addition to other security measures within Informer. Combined with certifications, SSL certificates, and regular audits, passkeys ensure that your data is always safely secured.

In addition, passkeys are not only secure but also easier to use. Remembering passwords becomes unnecessary, as does additional two-factor authentication. This greatly speeds up the login process while also being more secure.

How do I create a passkey in Informer?

You can create a passkey via Settings > Users > Security and login details by clicking 'Create a new passkey'.

After clicking 'Create a new passkey,' you choose how to set up the passkey, for example, via a phone. The subsequent steps depend on the browser and the device you are using. Devices have different steps to ask how you want to create the passkey and how you can eventually create it.

If you set up the passkey via your phone and have a fingerprint set up, you can log in to Informer with your fingerprint via your phone. When setting up and using the passkey via your phone, Bluetooth must be activated on both the computer and the phone. The passkey is created via Bluetooth.

Do I need to create multiple passkeys?

It is certainly recommended to create multiple passkeys. With multiple passkeys, you avoid problems if you no longer have access to one of your devices. With a passkey on multiple devices, you always have a backup passkey to create new passkeys.

If you set up a passkey on your mobile phone, you can log in to your computer via your phone with a passkey. Also, set up a passkey on the computer itself. If something happens to your mobile, you always retain access via the passkey set up on the computer.

To create multiple passkeys, go back to the user settings within Informer and repeat the entire process mentioned above. You only choose a different option when creating the passkey.

What should I do if I lose my passkey?

If you have created multiple passkeys on different devices, you always have a backup to still be able to log in.
