When to register a fixed asset

You should register a fixed asset when you purchase tangible items with a cost of €450 or more, such as computers or digital cameras, which will be used for more than a year. These items need to be recorded as assets in your accounting system.

How to register a fixed asset

InformerOnline has made the process of registering fixed assets as simple as possible. To register a fixed asset, follow these steps:

  1. In the menu on the left, go to Advanced;

  2. Select Assets registration and click on New;

  3. Fill in the required details.

Fixed Asset Groups

InformerOnline has created 7 standard fixed asset groups. These groups automatically populate the correct Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss accounts when selected. Additionally, they define the number of years over which the asset should be depreciated and the frequency of the depreciation (monthly or yearly).

If none of the existing asset groups are suitable, you can create a new asset group by following these steps:

  1. In the menu on the left, go to Settings;

  2. Select Asset Groups and click on New;

  3. Fill in the required details;

  4. Click Save to create the asset group.

Registering an ongoing asset

If you are registering an ongoing asset, part of it has already been depreciated. To properly register an ongoing asset, carefully fill out the following fields:

  1. Enter the original depreciation date in the Depreciation date field.

  2. Enter the start depreciation date within Informer in the Start depreciation as at field.

  3. Enter the amount that has already been depreciated in the Already written off (C) field.

  1. Set the depreciation frequency in the Depreciation Frequency field:

    1. Choose Month for monthly depreciation.

    2. Choose Year for yearly depreciation.

    3. Click Save once everything is correctly filled out.

    4. Review the depreciation schedule by going to the Depreciation Schedule tab.

    5. Click Start Schedule to activate the depreciation.
