A spending limit is the maximum amount you can spend within a certain rolling period. These limits are put in place to ensure the financial security of your payment account.
The Purposes of Spending Limits
Fraud Prevention: Companies set limits to reduce the risk of fraud.
Financial Protection: Both individual and business cardholders can set limits to protect funds — for example, setting a €100 travel expense limit over a 7-day period.
Institutional Security: Financial institutions may impose limits to protect themselves from liability.
Rolling Spending Limits
Rolling spending limits are not tied to specific dates or times. Instead, they are calculated based on how much you spend within defined periods. For example, you might have a limit of €5,000 over 30 days, €1,500 over 7 days, and €500 over 24 hours.
Note: Spending limits are calculated based on a rolling window starting from your first transaction.
Limits Set by Account Providers
Inpaygo may set specific spending limits depending on whether you have an individual or business account.
Note: Always ensure that the amount covered by your spending limit (e.g. €1,500 over 30 days) is available in your account to avoid overdrafts or a negative balance.
Some cards have a lifetime spending limit (all-time limit), allowing a specific amount to be spent over the card’s entire lifespan. Once this limit is reached, the card becomes inactive and can no longer be used.
You can check your specific spending limits in your Web Banking app or by contacting Inpaygo's support team.
Limits Set by Account Holders
As an account holder — or an authorized member with card management rights — you can adjust spending limits for various periods: 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
You can lower spending limits when creating cards for yourself or for other account members.
While the total spending limit applies to the account as a whole, limits can be customized per cardholder.
Note: Make sure to stay within the provider’s preset spending limits to avoid declined transactions.
Examples:
Example 1: Transaction by a business cardholder with a €50,000 limit over a 30-day rolling period:
If the company has five cards assigned to five account members, they can spend up to €50,000 in total over one month.
If the same limit is applied to each card, no individual member can spend more than €10,000.
Example 2: Withdrawal by an individual account holder with a €5,000 limit over a 30-day rolling period:
If you have two cards, you can withdraw a total of €5,000 over one month, shared across both cards.
